Does this type of friendship have a chance?

For some reason I tend to make good friends with the overachieving, type A, bossy type. It's so funny & I recently had this epiphany LOL..anyway, I don't like anyone bossing me around...especially if they are not an authority over me & they're just my friend. So I have been finding one of my friends is pushy/manipulates to try to get her way. Normally, I'd fall for it but I'm learning to develop a backbone, and I simply said no to the last thing she tried to make me do her way. Now she is acting hostile toward me because she doesn't understand why I couldn't do it. Another friend is just really bossy...not really manipulative on an emotional level, just bossy lol...and if someone asks me something nicely I'm more inclined to do it, but if they just give me an to do list of something to do, I can't deal with that approach. So again, I said no to the last thing she told me based on how she told me. In both of those situations, I could have done it but I don't want to send the message they can boss me around. I mean, I really do value these two friends for a lot of other reasons. They are rare in terms of their core values and their pursuits on life, etc...so what do I do? I would even welcome suggestions from other bossy personalities lol
