How to direct without being bossy?

I work with a bunch of new people and feel like since Ive been there the longest its my responsibility to let people know how to do new things. There was a serious lack of training and people are standing around all the time. Im not the boss or a manager, just a fellow employee so I cant tell them to get back to work. I say things like " could you work on" or "would it be possible for you to..." and other times their coming up to me asking what they can do. They follow directions well and listen to me but I want to lead, have people like me and also get work done. I also know that I can come off a little intense and dont wanna be a b****. Anyone have any tips or tricks to be a successful leader?
